God Will Sort The Dead... is the twentieth level in Marathon 2: Durandal and the second level in the chapter Blake.
This level is set in the base of the human survivors. There are many friendly BOBs, but unfortunately also a lot of explosive androids disguised as BOBs. There are also some Pfhor Troopers and Hunters here. Your job is to get rid of all the fake, exploding BOBs.
The room east of the starting position contains a pattern buffer, a 1x shield recharger, and an oxygen replenisher.
Walkthrough[]
This level contains a ton of allied BOBs and exploding BOBs. You can tell them apart by their behaviour: the exploding ones will run toward you while the allied ones don't. Also, exploding BOBs bleed yellow blood when shot. The easiest way to deal with them is to just shoot every BOB on sight. Keep in mind that when you kill too many humans, any nearby allied BOBs who saw your betrayal will turn on you, so kill the BOBs quickly.
You start off the level with four BOBs in front of you. The northeast one explodes. The east door leads to a room with a pattern buffer, a 1x shield recharger, an oxygen replenisher, and the exit terminal. Before you can exit the level, you need to blow up every exploding BOB.
From the starting room, there are three more areas you can visit in any order you like. The north and south doors will take you to a few BOB-filled rooms.
The west door leads to a room with two doors. The south door there leads to a basement area where you'll be ambushed by Pfhor Hunters and Troopers. The north door leads to another area under assault from the Pfhor. At the very east end of this area, northeast of the pattern buffer room, you'll find a large hall with a WSTE-M5 Combat Shotgun on the floor. A large number of BOBs and Pfhor will teleport in when you enter. There are two hidden buttons in the walls of the corridor leading into the room; pressing these buttons activates giant crushers in the shotgun room that will help you get rid of the enemies there.
After you've cleared the level of bad guys, return to the pattern buffer room and read the exit terminal to be sent to My Own Private Thermopylae.
Terminals []
acropolis.piltdown//004121.25.1[]
This terminal contains a message from Robert Blake, explaining that fake BOBs sometimes give themselves away by saying something a real person wouldn't. Once you've cleared the level, Blake explains that Durandal named the ancient AI you're trying to activate "Thoth", believing that Thoth is the way to contact the lost S'pht clan. Blake is also relieved that Durandal is no longer around, because Durandal sent humans into battle without caring about their lives. They plan to steal a Pfhor ship and return to Earth, and you're invited to come along when they do.
Trivia[]
- When this map is opened in a map editor, a written message can be found outside the bounds of the level. It reads:
Q: How do you tell the difference between the good Bobs and the bad ones? A: Good Bobs?
